About
Carol J. Watson teaches Art I at the Ninth Grade Campus in Georgetown ISD. A teacher for 17 years, the last six of which have been devoted to teaching art at both elementary and secondary levels, Carol is extremely interested in the intellectual and emotional impact that the fine arts have on a student’s academic development.
Carol is a member of the Texas Art Education Association, Texas Classroom Teachers Association, and the International Society of Glass Beadmakers. She was awarded GISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2007-2008.
As a board member of Georgetown Art Works, Carol seeks to make connections for students, parents, and businesses with art and its impact on our everyday lives. She also strives to promote visual arts as a cherished part of the community of Georgetown and beyond. Carol feels passionately about the education of the whole child through the arts, holding few things more sacred than the light in a child’s eye when she has created not only a unique piece of art, but an awareness of her own artistic potential. She believes this kind of light is shared throughout a family and even a community, building strong relationships across all sectors of life.
Carol lives a quiet and happy life in Georgetown with her husband, Arden Henderson, son Carter Calkins, and a multitude of dogs and cats. In her spare time she enjoys creating art as a mixed media and glass artist, organic gardening, cooking, reading, writing, and spending time with her family at home.
